The size
The modern toro is about 6 inches long with a 50 to 54 ring gauge, and rings well over 50 are common now. It overlaps with the corona gorda, whose Cuban standard is 5.625 x 46. It's one of the most popular sizes on the market.
Why smoke one
A toro has about the girth of a robusto with an extra inch of length. The wide ring keeps the filler and binder in charge of the flavor, and the length gives you more time with the cigar.
In a longer cigar the smoke travels farther and cools before it reaches you, so a toro's opening puffs can be a little softer than a robusto's.
