Lonsdale

The size

A lonsdale is longer than a corona and thicker than a panatela, classically 6.5 x 42. Most run 6 to 7 inches at 42 to 44 ring. Cuban factories call the size Cervantes, and the Montecristo No. 1 is a well-known example.

Where the name comes from

The Rafael González brand first called the Cervantes size a Lonsdale, after Lord Lonsdale, an English earl.

Why smoke one

The slim ring keeps the wrapper up front, the way it does in a corona or a lancero. The length adds smoking time without adding girth, and since thin cigars burn faster than thick ones, it's less of a commitment than it looks.
