Gordo

The size

Gordos are fat: usually 6 to 7 inches with a ring gauge of 60 or more. The La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 6, in 2001, was the first 6 x 60 from a major, nationally distributed brand, and now nearly every big brand makes one.

Where the name comes from

Gordo is Spanish for fat. Makers also use gigante and grande for the same kind of cigar.

Why smoke one

At 60 ring the wrapper covers a lot of filler, so the filler has a bigger effect on taste than in thinner cigars. The draw is big and cool, and the burn moves slowly.

A bigger ring doesn't make a cigar stronger. Size and strength have nothing to do with each other.
