Shape

Corona Gorda

Typical size: 5.625 x 46 to 48

The size

The Cuban standard is 5.625 inches with a 46 ring gauge, and you'll see it made at 46 to 48 ring elsewhere. The Punch Punch is a classic example. The name overlaps with the toro, and some makers use the two for the same size.

Where the name comes from

Gorda is Spanish for fat, so the name means fat corona.

Why smoke one

The extra girth over a corona puts more filler behind the wrapper, so the filler and binder shape more of the flavor. It burns a little cooler than a corona and is more compact than a modern 6 x 50 toro.

I haven't reviewed a cigar from Corona Gorda yet. See what I have reviewed.
